Provision
of Blood in an emergency for an individual or more is an important
social and religious responsibility. Quran says” To save a
person is as to save humanity”. MAWA has played a significant
role in arranging blood donors whenever being called by peoples
at any time. Our Health department is working for providing blood
donation services from last 3 years.
History: MAWA started it blood donation services
by mobilizing the young volunteers to give their bloods at various
emergency situations. These emergencies may happen due to certain
disasters or due to someone’s personal emergency needs like
operations etc.
This service was initially conducted by maintaining the list of
donors and then informing them telephonically or through messages
in time of any emergency need. However the work entered in to new
phase, when our first blood donation camp was held in Muharram’s
Central Procession in Islamabad in 2007 for receiving the blood
bags from donors.
This
camp was arranged with the collaboration of District Blood Transfusion
Unit (Thelassaemia Center) Rawalpindi for the storage of blood bags.
An agreement was made with the blood bank to issue us the donated
blood bags whenever we request for any of our recipient in future.
The next major progress held last year when we started Blood Grouping
and Blood Testing Services by our own medical team. You all know
that the ratio of blood diseases like Hepatitis B & C is increasing
very rapidly due to usage of unclean drinking water by mostly peoples
in Pakistan, which generated a need of blood tests prior to donate
it to any patient.
A Medical / Blood lab was also established at Al-Murtaza Clinic
Islamabad for Blood Grouping, Hepatitis B and C test and sugar test.
Moreover the medical camping activity is now also made focused on
this matter. Peoples at the camps are given the awareness lectures
for blood grouping and testing.
MAWA is charging Rs. 70 for villages and Rs. 100 for cities for
the Hepatitis B and C tests. However the market rate is Rs. 350
which is very high for the peoples.
We annually arrange medical/blood camps during the 9th and 10th
Muharram-al-Haram and Safar-al-Muzafar’s Central Procession
at G-6/2 Chowk, Islamabad and Fowara chowk. A team of doctors, paramedical
staff and volunteers serves the mourners with medicines and ambulance
service.
The detail of blood donation services is as follows:
• Number of Camps: 14 Camps
• Number of Blood Bags: 415 Bags
• Number of Blood Donors: 260 registered
volunteers
• Blood bags donated so far: 500 Bags
